Dr. Lina Del Castillo

Faculty Advisor to Past in Process

Faculty Member of the Board

Dr. Del Castillo is originally from Bogotá, Colombia, but grew up in the United States. Although her daily childhood life mostly took place in Westchester County, New York, an important part of her childhood also took place in Bogotá, where she spent many summers and occasional winter breaks. Yearning to learn more about the place of her birth, Dr. Del Castillo studied abroad in Colombia as an undergraduate at Cornell and lived in Colombia after graduation. She quickly realized that the only career track that would allow her to bi-locate between the United States and Colombia was the historical profession. Her graduate studies at the University of Miami opened her research interests towards the intersections between 19th-century republicanism, travel narratives, scientific thinking, the public sphere, and visual culture. She currently is Associate Professor of History at the University of Texas at Austin where she is continually pleased and amazed by the students she has had the pleasure to work with precisely because the work they do here does go on to change the world.
